1. (trance) (3959↑, 777↓)
By far the best form of music that exists. A recent study showed that if a population is divided into musical preference, those who claim a strong allegiance to trance have the highest average IQ.

Trance is the music of the genius-generation.

2. (trance) (2007↑, 171↓)
A form of electronic music that has spiralled out from other forms such as [techno] and [house]. Essentially, trance combines a powerful "4-to-the-floor" (or occasionally breakbeat) drumtrack with a strong melodic hookline. Trance is indisputably one of the most emotional genres that actually exists, because it is all self-interpretation. There are no instrumental or musical limits to trance, and rather than listening to some random guy screaming about his life, associating with a trance progression or hookline is much more deep, and much more personal. Like other genres, trance has many subgenres, some of which have become very commercialised to the extent where the musical merit of some tracks must be questioned (eg. Flip'n'Fill, Scooter etc.) At the higher end of the more uplifting, melodic (and relatively popular) styles of trance are DJs such as [Tiesto], [Armin van Buuren], and [Ferry Corsten]. These DJs in particular can make beautifully structured mixes their own music, and the music of others, building it into a euphoric collage which spans multiple energy levels, in order to provide the listener with peak/trough feelings, and carry them through numerous emotions and mental states. The creation and spread of trance music is mainly down to machinery such as the Roland JP-8000 (providing the prominently manipulated [supersaw] wave), and experimental DJs such as Sasha & John [Digweed].

I want to listen to a melodic, energetic form of music that emotionally affects my state of mind. Therefore, I will listen to trance.

3. (trance) (1175↑, 221↓)
The most sublime, divine, advanced music genre known to man, representing a quantum leap in artistic creativity analogous to the development of the frontal lobe in the human brain. Having an IQ below 130 renders one incapable of apreciating, let alone enjoying trance. Being a connoisseur of trance bespeaks of extremely high intelligence and impeccable level of personal sophistication. On the other hand, those who despise trance can uniformly be characterized as primtive troglodytes, closer to ape than man.

To put it simply...The best music ever devolped. Uses a pulse pounding beat and uplifting, euophoric melodies. Trance music can be listened to under any circumstances: Getting pumped b4 a game, get wild at a club or party, speeding down the freeway, Chillin in a lounge, sleeping too, even trippin out...

The club exploded when Paul Oakenfold began spinnin.

5. (trance) (472↑, 74↓)
A type of electronic dance music characterised by a moderately fast tempo (typically 140-155 bpm) and "steady 4" rhythm (as opposed to the more syncopated rhythms commonly found in house, breakbeats, etc.) Trance has a strong influence from early Detroit techno, but tends to be more dramatic or "emotional" than the minimalism of earlier techno. Common elements in trance include heavy, compressed kick drums, dramatic sweeping pads, and cascading synth arpeggios. As with any kind of music, there are a billion sub-classifications possible -- hard trance, psytrance, acid trance, goa trance, etc. Trance has been one of the most popular forms of club music over the past few years, and has arguably produced more mainstream appeal (Oakenfold, Van Dyk, etc.) than most other electronic sub-genres.

"She spun a sick trance set in the big room last night; lots of distorted 909s and squelchy basslines, none of this shite that sounds like a car commercial."

6. (trance) (445↑, 82↓)
The ultimate music for improving your concentration. Great for studying, writing papers, reading long books, ect. Has a great beat to drown out all distractions but no words to distract you.

Fuck the mozart effect, i'm gonna listen to some trance while I write my report.

7. (trance) (327↑, 81↓)
The mental state one is in after being hypnotized. The music genre was named after this mental state.

Donnie's therapist put him in a hypnotic trance to examine his subconscious memories.

A genre of music suited for the more advanced and sophisticated personality. For people who like to engage in intellectual thought and experince thier own emotions in a way that exceeds traditional writting or music. Music that can relax a busy mind or inspire one to excel and achieve great things emotionaly and spritialy. Girls like to dance. So if you want to meet girls, go to a trance club. Thats how I met my wife.

Song:Im not fooled - by: John 00 Fleming - Album: Creamfields. I was lsitening to this song when I was re-united with my wife after spending 1 year in Afgan and 1 year in Iraq. It was also the same song I listened to when I had to leave to go to war and cryed like a baby. Trance music can enhance your true emotions and adapt to any situation.

A form, or a state, of traveling between nearby star systems, and to a lesser extent, between galaxies with relation to epic, melodic, and/or uplifting trance music.

After listening to the trance song, "Elements of Life," by DJ Tiesto, Kensuke took a one-way, first-class flight to the closest star system, Alpha Centauri.

A type of Electronic Dance Music. Reached it's peak in the late 90's where Trance actually became somewhat mainstream in the U.S. Although not as strong as it used to be...Trance is far from dead. Rather it is simply just evolving into different forms(Progressive Trance is the style now these days). Popular in Europe.

Trance music is experimental electronic (opposite to instrumental) dance music which orients around harmonious sound textures (a.k.a. melody textures). It originated back in late 80's but became an official genre in 1993. Since then trance producers started to form definition in various ways, what led to creation of many trance sub-genres.. Some of the most known are: (1) Progressive trance - lowers ratio between melody progression and melody texturing to some solid level.. (2) Epic & Anthem trance - emphasizes sound melody more than melody texturing. This trance-sellout led to big disappointment for original-trance listeners (3) Psychedelic trance - changed the sound texturing dimension.. original trance tried to make a repetitive sound by combining complex layers of melody textures.. psy-trance tried to make it more progressive in time - by making it more complex in gating Opposite to trance is techno - which orients around non-harmonic (percussive) textures.

Trance is not a genre of music, but instead, a flow, an element. A true conveyance of human expression, culture, and diversity. Trance is not a style, it´s a way of music which gives expression to euphoric emotions from within yourself. Once you have trance, you can turn it into whatever you want. Trance is the epitome of sound, the sound men was looking for, but instead that sound ended up creating himself. Trance is so much more than music.................

A Sub-Genre of Techno/Electronica. Usually incorporates pianos, melodic Riffs, hypnotic vocals, and/or a relaxing/upbeat tune. Music (along with house) that was created for people that enjoy life, raves, big ass festivals (such as sensation white, armin only, Ultra Music Festival in beautiful Byscane Park Miami, every single club in sexy IBIZA, SPAIN, etc), and basically progressive people (which house and trance have a subgenre called like it). Music that's more than music....almost a fucking way of life. As some said, there's some pretty cheesy trance, but then there are masterpieces especially from Armin van Buuren, and many other tracks released by Armada, Enhanced records, Anjunabeats, and other proven quality records which attrack millions. Armin van Buuren's ASOT attracts about 30 million listeners weekly (largest audience in the fucking world after BBC radio), and his ASOT 500 was celebrated in 5 continents, 5 countries, 5 weeks.... Trance and House festivals (and edm in general except techno which is a piece of shit), are like no other. The ambience, the people, the lights, the sound...ex: Sensation White....can't be compared to shitty rap concerts, reggaeton (which I have gone to, since I liked that kind of music before listening to house and EDM), or any other kind of music. Electronic Music is the shit....everything else seems lame ater that. Look up in youtube the festivals and be delighted.

2 people planning a trip: Guy 1: Hey man, Ima go to Chicago cuz Lil Wayne will do some shit concert overthere. Wanna go? Guy 2: Hell no, I don't wanna get raped....Ima go to Ibiza, Spain where the best clubs in the world are, enjoy the sexy beach with topless Europeans, fuck some Euro chicks, go to another rave in a 6000+ capacity club and enjoy trance/house/EDM, and come back with a smile :D

Trance music is really awesome.

25. (Trance) (21↑, 26↓)
A category of the Electronica genre. I find it to be particularly awesome. Great for relaxing, thinking, dancing, and just listening to. Usually your friend might not agree with this and may call it "gay" they aren't true friends, but that's another definition. This is the perfect music to listen all the time.

Me: "Dude, Trance is awesome, come listen to 009 Sound System, Dreamscape\!" "friend": "What ever, that's gay, you should listen to Kanye West." Me: "No thanks, I'll pass"

26. (Trance) (5↑, 13↓)
[edm] equivalent to pop, very popular, but not really the best. It has it's merits and shortcomings. It does take a great amount of talent to produce any sort of edm, give a regular music listener [Ableton] and lets see how easy it is to make a good song.

28. (trance) (96↑, 119↓)
98/99 was trance's downfall from a production and creative level. The cheap gimmick of the build-breakdown-anthem was what allowed it to become so commercial and so successful. Pure trance is very repetitive, unresponsive, hypnotic, and is an acquired taste.....the exact antithesis to the music that dominated the club scene in 98/99. Thing is......people are stupid. They have neither the intelligence nor the patience nor the introspection to appreciate something like trance, so they virtually ignored it for most of its existence until trance developed these singalong melodies and flighty, ethereal orchestral chords. Only when trance brought itself down to the level of the lowest-common denominator of music listeners did it become wildly popular on an unprecedented level. And like anything, it created a theme. A gimmick, in the form of shallow breakdowns and trite, limp anthems. And like any gimmick, it needed to be exploited, milked dry, chewed up and spat out. Trance producers became addicted to the insta-fame the new Anthem Trance gave them. A lot of them started making a very comfortable living, and they refused to go back........they refused to take risks, refused to innovate, refused to produce, succeed, and excel in music. They grew lazy and complacent. It was far easier, after all, to simply replicate the same song over and over again with the same template, with a few minor key changes. They churned out, instead, Pulp Trance, manufactured assembly line McTrance, commercial schlock intended for mass consumption. The music, like breads and circuses, distracted the ignorant peons from what trance was supposed to be doing to them. They ate it all, of course. Like greedy little consumers, they swallowed the tra(sh)nce whole and asked for more, never thinking about the care or quality of the culture that once fostered it. Like a seed passing undigested through the body of a bird, they drifted in and out of the rave scene, devouring the products of trance but never thinking to enrich and strengthen the community; like parasites, they became docile spectators, free to engorge themselves on the superscene they're told to worship; never to participate, never to involve, never to self-actualize. And then they proceeded to think that they were (and still are) somehow more cultured and evolved than the rest of society because they listen to this bumping underground trance music, unaware that trance is utilizing essentially the exact same tricks, techniques and sacharine schmaltz that they so loathed about the pop music world. Trance became instrumental pop music in 1998. That's why it became so popular. Nothing "beautiful" or "magical" about that.

Resistance D - Cosmic Love is trance, System F - Exhale is an abomination.

Alot of people like trance. White people. Techno actually is where you come across the more trancey and hypnotic, mind-massaging pieces of music IF THIS IS WHAT YOU ARE AFTER (Maurizio, Surgeon etc) The roots of techno are basically afro-american & german. Trance seems restricted to the european and anglo communities and/or mindset. Israel people are also heavily into their Trance\! Trance is also very popular in germany where many of its greatest producers came from\! But its not generally a style that black people were influenced by in the way that they were by Kraftwerk. Techno and hip hop and house are all interrelated in that sense And yes i'm familiar with many sub-genres of trance. The psytrance crews do put on great parties/doofs though. Its just a pity about the non-funkiness of the music Pyschedelic - trance ain't and techno is. Hypnotic - trance ain't and techno is Truly druggy - trance ain't, techno is

[Techno] with a march layered over the standard 4-on-the-floor drums. Beatless portions are interspersed throughout; these "ambient" sections then get an accompanying snare roll that doubles several times until the bass drums resume. Typically 130-160 [BPM]. Characteristic [track]s include: Robert Miles - "The Dream" Astral Projection - "Mahadeva" Commander Tom - "Are Am Eye?"

Lifeless electronic music of the 4/4 variety. Wishes it were techno. Signified by aggravatingly long drum rolls, low-frequency synth stabs opposite every downbeat and positively mindless melodies that evoke no feeling in serious-minded electronic music enthusiasts. 37. (Trance) (18↑, 66↓)
Music that requires no talent or musical ability to create. It is the “creation” of so-called “producers” who fancy themselves as actual musicians. Most “artists” who “write” trance music have very limited skills at playing an instrument or singing. Lyrics, if any, are usually elementary level at best. Trance is “composed” primarily via programs such as Logic and Appleton by using pre-recorded loops. Occasionally, the “producer” will place the tip of his penis onto a midi controller to trigger a few spacey sounds drawn from from an extensive data base of virtual (not real) instruments provided by Steve Jobs. Trance music lacks humanistic feel made possible by the use of real instruments. Any monkey with an index finger and a laptop can be an award-winning trance artist. Trance is very popular in Europe with drug users who don’t know when to go home. It should be said that the most popular “artworks” are usually the worst. The general public usually knows nothing about art which is why Vanilla Ice’s album sold 6 million copies. Some say that trance is “music for people with I.Q.’s over 130” which is interesting since it takes only an I.Q. of 30 to create. These people fail to realize that a high I.Q. has nothing to do with being informed or musically educated. In fact, most “trance snobs” couldn’t tell you that the current song on the radio is sung by The Beatles. Seriously, if ever there was a wrong style of music to be a snob about, it’s trance.
